About Me

About Me

I have been in the technology space for about 20 years. I am currently working as a Sr. Manager and a Lead Oracle Database Technology Architect at Oracle Corporation. My passion is the automation of complex tasks using languages such as Perl, Ruby and Korn. There is nothing quite like the satisfaction of creating a script that walks a DBA through creating a standby database from start to finish or a menu based system that restores a database and “plugs” in all the proper syntax. Oracle provides tools such as Cloud Control which simplify these tasks, and when they work, they make a DBA’s job much easier. Often times though the abstraction from the process makes errors difficult to troubleshoot where a simple script with proper error checking can do the same thing with way fewer moving parts. Automation can also enforce business rules or best practices that are not always available in the Cadillac option. This is where I come in. I get to write simple backend tools that make life easier for system and database administrators that do one thing and do it well. My job has had the added benefit of allowing me to travel around the globe and to work with intelligent and unique people, providing instruction on the tools I develop and general consulting on Oracle databases. The photos on the site are of some of the places I have been blessed to visit. My Oracle skillset includes, RMAN, Goldengate, Dataguard, SQL and PL/SQL scripting, RAC, Performance Tuning, data obfuscation and general database administration. My home hobbies include networking with pfSense, virtualization using VMWare, KVM and Proxmox for KVM Management. I prefer Docker containers for managing my PLEX home media server and Grafana for providing graphing data from various databases and NextCloud for managing my own cloud server and well… really anything else techie that can make my brain itch. On this site I hope to save others some time by covering tasks that I have worked through and code snippets that have made my life easier. I hope you find my brain dumps and rants useful or at least entertaining.

Feel free to leave comments or questions I will be happy to address them as time allows.
